
A pair of 1939 ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz sold at Heritage Auctions in December. They were estimated at $3 million and sold for $32.5 million. Also included in the auction was the hat worn by the Wicked Witch selling for $2.9 million.

The slippers are made of red silk faille with hand-sequined silk georgette uppers and heals, white leather lining and red leather soles with orange felt on the front. The bows are made of hand-cut buckram cloth and feature rhinestones and bugle beads.
Six or seven pairs were made for the film and four are known to have survived.
This pair just sold were stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids Minnesota in 2005. The FBI recovered them in 2018.
A pair sold in 2000 for $666,000 and in 2012 Steven Spielberg and Leonardo DiCaprio paid $2 million for another pair that they donated to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.
